Wrap Up – Our Year in Review

Well, we made it back to our home in Kentucky a little over a week ago. With our year(ish) adventure at an end, it is time to reflect on and wrap-up some of the statistics about the trip and answer some of the questions we have been asked. First, let’s look at some statistics: Number […]

The Cassiar Highway + A Side Trip

Upon leaving Skagway, we headed back north on the gorgeous South Klondike Highway, and east onto the Alaska Highway.  From there we had a choice.  Continue on the Alaska Highway all the way to Dawson Creek, or head down the Cassiar Highway? The decision was almost made for us as the Cassiar closed the night

On to Skagway!

Well, we are back in Alaska!  We weren’t ready to say goodbye for good just yet, so we have made our way to Skagway for a few days.  Between Dawson City and Skagway we made a couple of stops, and check out the view from our campsite at Fox Lake!  We think it was the

Leaving Alaska

We have been dreading this day.  Since we entered Alaska three months ago, we have absolutely fallen head over heels in love with the state.  Heather said last night that she was concerned before our visit that we had built it up in our minds so much that we might be disappointed with the reality,

Sunset Again!

This is a super quick post from Clearwater State Recreation Area where we have spent the last two days relaxing and soaking in the beautiful weather we have had while here. The temperatures have been situated perfectly in the upper 60s and low 70s and we have had partly sunny skies! The sunshine has been

Friends, Museum, Bus, and Berries

We have spent a few rainy days in Fairbanks taking care of the business of life.  We have done laundry, spent a record amount of money at the grocery store, gotten some prescriptions filled, payed bills, and edited and uploaded a video.  The weather hasn’t cooperated for us to get outside much, but there have

Tangle Lakes

We have had a very relaxing week and a half since our journey into Wrangell-St. Elias National Park via the McCarthy Road.  We have spent the time traveling short distances and staying in a combination of roadside pull outs and small BLM campgrounds.  We have spent a few days each in Sourdough Creek Campground, Paxson

Valdez, AK

Valdez is spectacular!  No kidding, it is likely the most gorgeous setting for a town we have ever seen.  The mountains are huge and gorgeous with glaciers between, the water is blue, berries are ripe, and flowers are blooming everywhere!  It is almost magical. Before we get to all that, though, let’s talk about getting

Palmer, Revisited

As mentioned in our last post, we are back in Palmer for a few days.  There are a number of chores that we need to accomplish while here, but first we had some activities that we ran out of time for last time we were in the area, so we got to the fun stuff

Portage Valley and Whittier

After leaving Seward on Tuesday, we headed back toward Anchorage to get Richard back to the airport.  It was unreal that his time with us was already over!  It didn’t seem like a week had already passed and it definitely wasn’t long enough, but back to the airport he had to go anyway.  To avoid

Seward, AK

After our boat ride to Seldovia that we talked about in our last blog post, we spent the next day exploring the beach, old town area, and fishing hole in Homer.  In all honesty, there wasn’t much about it that was blog-worthy, so we are going to skip it and move on to our next

A Day on the Water

Today was a note-worthy day for several reasons!  First, we are currently in Homer, Alaska for a few days with Heather’s Uncle Richard.  He has flown in for a week to visit and explore the Kenai Peninsula with us!  Second, we took a scenic cruise to Seldovia, Alaska.  Finally, it was an absolutely gorgeous day.

Bodenburg Butte

This is going to be a quick one. We are still in Palmer, AK and plan to stay for a few more days! We are so impressed with the Palmer area. The combination of mountains and farmland make it absolutely gorgeous, there are lots of things to do to keep you busy, and the crowds

The Hatcher Pass Area

We are now in Palmer, AK.  The holiday weekend seemed to sneak up on us and left us without any plans or reservations.  Since we know that holiday weekends in some campgrounds can get a little rowdy – and that isn’t really our scene – we opted to go for an RV park.  RV parks

Talkeetna, AK

We spent the afternoon today in Talkeetna.  We generally aren’t big on wandering around tourist towns, so we weren’t even really sure we wanted to visit here, but it was along our route and we found a decent place to stay, so we decided to give it a shot.  Let’s first say that it is
